Plenty of Water for the New Ivanpah Airport but not for YOUR Lawn?

Only two years ago, Southwest Airlines was running a skeleton crew of planes and personnel out of Las Vegas International Airport with hundreds of planes parked on the ramp. Now Southwest is moving forward with plans to fly hundreds of thousands of flights a year out of Las Vegas.

The plan is to build the long-awaited Ivanpah Airport toward State Line, about 30 miles from the Strip.

Terry Reynolds, director of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry, announced

“Four months ago, we talked to Southwest Airlines, and I know they are looking at an incredible expansion on the number of flights that they have coming into Las Vegas, in the hundreds-of-thousands range,” “They have one of their chief executive officers who lives in Las Vegas, so they are looking at a major development and major increase in their traffic over the next couple of years.”

The Clark County Aviation Department and Federal Aviation Administration will build the new airport on 6,000 acres of undeveloped federal land.

According to Reynolds, Southwest is breaking ground within the next year. The long term plan is to develop the federal land from the M Hotel and Casino to the new airport and beyond to state-line.

Water doesn’t seem to be an issue when billions of dollars are at stake. So be prepared to tear out your lawn and take showers every other day to conserve Lake Mead. Interesting how climate change doesn’t seem to impact some projects? The secret is, there is no crisis, it’s just an excuse to spend money. The world has been warming since the end of the Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago, long before cars and planes.
