Last week the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, Donald Trump, attacked U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel overseeing his civil lawsuit involving Trump University. Trump said the Mexican judge could not be trusted to be fair because Trump is advocating building a wall on the Mexican border.

Sandoval, a Hispanic former federal judge himself, has been unusually silent in this dispute.  Many people have said behind the scenes they expected Sandoval to rush to U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel’s defense.

In February of this year, Trump won a decisive victory here in Nevada winning more caucus votes than all the votes cast in the 2012 presidential caucus combine.

So with his establishment allies in a close primary election, Sandoval is refusing to criticize Trump. With the Republican base voters already in an uproar over several of Sandoval’s policies, it appears he would rather hang his ally Judge Curiel out to dry than defend him and risk bringing to light Sandoval’s own support for La Raza, a group many have called racist.

Sandoval addressed the National Council of La Raza at their annual convention in 2012 in Las Vegas, where he expressed support for their efforts. La Raza is considered by many to be a racist organization including former US Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales. Sandoval went on to legislatively support La Raza’s agenda of amnesty, driver’s licenses for illegal aliens, welfare for illegal aliens and a sanctuary city catch and release program allowing illegal aliens arrested by Metro Police on felony charges here in Clark County to post bail.

So after watching Sandoval abandon US District Judge Curiel, the real question many of Sandoval’s allies must be asking themselves now is will he have their backs when the chips are down?
