HomeEntertainmentTHE DAILY GRIND – SEPTEMBER 12, 2016: RAIDERS STADIUM SPECIAL SESSION ALL BUT CERTAIN, ACCORDING TO MAYOR GOODMAN Entertainment, Local, Politics, TV RAIDER STADIUM SPECIAL SESSION ALL BUT CERTAIN September 12, 2016 This Morning on Channel 8 News Mayor Goodman said the Stadium advisory board would approve the Stadium if the vote were held today. The Mayor sits on an advisory board made up of City and County officials who have an advisory role only. There are two more meetings this month, then it goes to the legislature. The Legislature is likely to meet in October before the eleciton. The Republican dominated legislature will be asked to vote for an increase in the room tax for hotels to pay the $750 million public contribution. Being that a special session will right before the fall eleciton this could make for some interesting politics. NEWSMAXTV LAS VEGAS has reached out to many State Assemblymen and State Senators, all of whom are keeping their positions tight to the vest. Call your state representatives and let them know where you stand. Make your voice heard. Rob Lauer Political Contributor commented on the proposed Stadium project ” I support the stadium because we need major projects like this to grow our economy. Building major economic projects like roads, bridges and infrastructure is the role of government in our economy. We have watched other major cities around the US build stadiums that have gone on to become a major economic engine in their community. That being said, I am concerned about the State’s liability in this deal. I would like to see UNLV kick in a chuck of the $750 Million to offset tax payer’s risk. Being right on the strip, concerts and other non NFL events will provide additional revenues. And perhaps the stadium might draw a Major League Baseball team and even a Pro soccer team as well.” According to Mayor Goodman, the NFL owners are set to meet in January so the investors need to approve the deal by then or they may be stuck waiting for another year, which would put the project in jeopardy.
