Shocked by all the fees a startup must pay out. How can the average working person afford to start a business with of these fees? And you are required to pay these fees even if you work out of your home, which the government claims in most cases is unlawful. If one wants to start a handyman business in, say, Clark County, they will have to pay the Nevada Secretary of State $750 to file corporate documents, then pay the county $100, and then every city gets another business license fee. All in, you’re at $1,150 before you swing your hammer. Veterans are disproportionately affected by poverty and often end up homeless due to the VA taking years to acknowledge their injuries and provide assistance. It took me over a decade to get any real help from the VA. These are the men and women WE swore to support if and when they returned from war. We all have a duty to help them. Governor-elect Lomabardo was in the U.S. Army in armor (tanks). As a fellow veteran, I am calling on him to ask the legislature to cut the state business license fee for all veterans for their first year by half. And for 50% disabled veterans, cut it to zero. Its very nice to hear folks say thank you for your service. And it’s lovely that we have parades and built walls and statues to honor our men and women who served our country. But frankly, that’s not nearly enough. We owe them every bit of help we can offer them to get back on their feet and build their lives. Its time we slash business start up fees to help pay it forward.
