The real issue in the LAFD and across California is their DEI progressive agenda taking precedence over everything else, including public safety. In early May 2022, DEI hire LAFD Chief Kristin M. Crowley proudly announced the department’s first “All Electric EV fire truck,” at a cost of over $1.2 million. A similar diesel fire truck costs about $200,000, according to online search results. The new engine has been assigned to Fire Station 82 in Hollywood, which will serve as a testing site. Right where the fires struck in the Hollywood Hills last week. LAFD Chief Kristin M. Crowley. “The new electric [sic] fire engine is an excellent platform for our department to test the future of alternative energy, and allows our department to pursue a green path forward. It will reduce noise, and bring it basically to nothing in regards to diesel emissions. We will actually create the space for our firefighters to be healthier around our fire engines.” But by May 26, 2022, the EV fire truck was leaking water so badly it was taken out of commission, according to reports. As of January 11, 2025, the starting salary for a firefighter in the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is $85,315 per year. That salary barely puts them over the poverty line in LA, where the average 2-bedroom apartment rents for $3,800. And remember, California has a state income tax of 9.3% for that income bracket. So the $1.2 million they spent on the EV fire truck could have been used to hire 14 more firefighters. LAFD had plans to order hundreds more EV trucks. But that was a really cool picture of the lesbian fire chief in the fire truck she’s not qualified to actually drive. LAFD Chief Crowley, who is openly gay and the city’s first female fire chief, has made diversifying the overwhelmingly male department a priority. She bragged about hiring lesbian firefighters. In fact, the LAFD lowered their standards for female recruits, not requiring them to carry 100 pounds on their back out of a building or up a flight of stairs. This 2022 shows Chief Crowley’s priorities were not recruiting and retaining the best possible firefighters but DEI. https://ens.lacity.org/lafd/lafdreportarchv/lafdlafdreport1864164200_08112022.pdf Fire hydrants not working and reservoirs not filled are the responsibilities of the fire department to inspect regularly. While LA Mayor Bass appointed this disaster Fire Chief and failed to supervise her, major aspects of this disaster were truly the responsibility of the fire chief.
