ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES CHALLENGE PRIMARY ELECTION MACHINE RESULTS IN COURT

Several Assembly Candidates are filing petitions today challenging the election results of the June 14, 2016 primary election.

Blain Jones, Diana Orrock, Steve Sanson, Mary Rooney, and Connie Foust are all challenging the election results through petitions they are set to file today.

The challenges are based on claims that the Clark County Registrar of Voters announced on June 22, 2016 that he had upgraded voting machine software earlier that year, without any prior notice to the contestants, in violation of federal law.

The petition states:
“Pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 15481, the CONTESTANT has the right to inspect and manually audit the sealed, raw votes.” and “that the CONTESTANT had no knowledge of the significant “Change’ to the voting systems until after the election and canvass.”

According to several of the campaigns, their exit polling had them way up beyond the margin of error. According to campaign staff, in Blain Jones’ election, Derek Armstrong and Blain Jones’ exit polling numbers were dead on but just swapped with the official election results.

None of the candidates are officially accusing anyone of wrong-doing. However, the computer software is being challenged. The voting machines have a paper record of each vote cast and the challengers seek to count those paper ballot results.

They will have to file a lawsuit in Clark County District Court seeking a judge’s order to count those paper ballots.
