Campaign funds from Republican donors, who thought they were supporting Mr. Armstrong and other Republicans to get their conservative message out to voters. Instead, Mr. Armstrong was directly funding the biggest liberal mouthpiece in the state of Nevada. Instead, Mr. Armstrong was funding a man who called fiscal conservatives, who simply wanted to keep their word to the voters, “Anti-Tax Zealots.” For the past year, Mr. Ralston continued (through his PBS TV show) to support Mr. Armstrong’s vote for the largest tax increase in Nevada’s history, providing him political cover. Mr. Armstrong recently squeaked by in the Republican primary race, but now faces an uphill battle he is certain to lose without those same Republican primary voters’ support in the general election this November.
