NV DEMOCRATIC SENATE BILL WILL REMOVE U.S. CONSTITUTION FROM SCHOOL REQUIREMENT

February 14, 2017

This week in Carson City, Democrat Senator Joyce Woodhouse submitted Senate Bill 20 which would remove the Nevada and US Constitution from the required items teachers would have to know in order to get a job from school districts in Nevada.  According to official records, Clark County School District is short some 500 teachers.

But Republican State Senator Scott Hammond, who is also a teacher, said teachers knowing the Nevada and US Constitution has not been a problem in his experience and opposed the change in the law.

Teacher Unions support the bill, saying, knowing the NV and US Constitution has been an impediment for out of state teachers, but according to CCSD HR its only been a problem for around ten teachers so far.

Kevin L. Child, Clark County School District Trustee said “You have to know the US Constitution to graduate from basic high school. If you want to be a good teacher the US Constitution is a basic requirement and its a basic requirement to be a good citizen in our society.”
