PATRICK CASALE LEADS CCRP EFFORTS TO BAN RINO SENATORS WHO RAISED FUEL TAXES

May 8, 2019

Clark County Republican Central Committee Treasurer Patrick Casale submitted a resolution today that will be voted on at the May 21, 2019 6:00 pm CCRP meeting at the Silverton Casino calling for the excommunication of three Clark County Nevada State Senators; Sen. Scott Hammond, Senator Keith Pickard and Senator Joe Hardy for their recent vote for SB48 which will allow counties to raise fuel taxes.

Casale’s resolution states the “Clark County Republicans spent their time and money to help get Clark County Republican State Senators Scott Hammond, Senator Keith Pickard and Senator Joe Hardy elected and re-elected;” and goes on to state the three Senators’ actions “defrauded” voters.

Casale’s resolution calls out the three Nevada State senators for violating the Clark County Platform “in 2018 The Republican Clark County Central Committee passed: PLANK #2 – Jobs & Economy: We believe that free market principles promote job growth and prosperity for all; therefore, we encourage policies that support small businesses and private sector job creation, while eliminating unnecessary government regulations and burdensome taxes; and that government should not exercise favoritism among competing businesses.”

Casale’s resolution goes on to state “Clark County Republican State Senators Scott Hammond, Senator Keith Pickard and Senator Joe Hardy are not welcome at Clark County Central Committee meetings,” and “Hardy no longer have the support of Clark County Republicans;”.

This isn’t the first time the CCRP voted to condemn their own. In 2015, after Republican State Senator Michael Roberson and Gov. Sandoval supported the largest tax increase in history, the CCRP passed similar resolution. Many Republicans still blame that 2015 vote to the NV GOP’s historic losses last year.

Patrick Casale told 360 “This sends a message that the GOP must stand up for small businesses and tax payers. Just as Pres. Trump’s economic plan kicks into high gear, higher fuel taxes are the last thing we need right now. We must keep our word to the voters. I will always speak out and oppose bad public polices even if that means taking on fellow Republicans.”

Under Nevada law, two thirds of the State Senate must vote to raise any taxes. The Senate Republicans actually hold a one vote margin to deny Democrats any tax increases. But Republicans have a history of caving on tax increases year after year. So when Senate Bill SB48, which allows counties to raise fuel taxes, came up for a vote, perhaps one Republican would cave to pressure and bribes. Nope, four, not one, but four Nevada State Republican Senators caved and voted to raise your fuel taxes. Senators Scott Hammond, Pete Goicoechea, Joe Hardy and Keith Pickard all voted to raise your taxes.
