NV(D)REP TITUS FULLY SUPPORTS FBI TRUMP SPYING LAW

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) is the law passed by Congress authorizing the FBI to seek approval from a secret court to spy on foreign nationals when Americans may be part of the data collection. That’s how it’s supposed to work, in theory.

In 2016, the Clinton campaign hired Perkins Coie, which in turn hired Fusion GPS to produce a fake intelligence report tying Trump to Russia, which the FBI used to obtain a FISA warrant as a back door to spy on the Trump campaign. In 2022, the Clinton Campaign paid a fine of $113,000 to the Federal Elections Commission for using campaign funds to pay for the fake Russian Steel dossier. No one has gone to prison in the FBI or Clinton campaign for that gross abuse of power.

Trump Republicans in Congress held up the FISA authorization law this week, seeking to end the law or significantly reduce the FBI’s authority. But RINO’s and Progressives joined forces to reauthorize FISA.

Progressives like Nevada (D) Congresswoman Dino Titus voted to fully support the power of the FBI to spy on average Americans and  political opponents.

But recent reports have documented significant abuses by the FBI, which used FISA warrants to scoop up wholesale data from millions of Americans without warrants.

“The FISA Court held that the FBI’s procedures for accessing Americans’ communications that are “incidentally” collected under Section 702 of FISA violated both the statute and the Fourth Amendment.”

“This is now the fourth major FISA Court opinion on Section 702 in 10 years, documenting substantial non-compliance with the rules meant to protect Americans’ privacy. The opinion, moreover, reveals that the FBI is conducting literally millions of backdoor searches, including so-called “batch queries” that rest on the same discredited legal theory used to justify the NSA’s bulk collection of Americans’ phone records. Despite the enormous implications for Americans’ privacy and the government’s dismal record, the remedy suggested by Amici and imposed by the court was just more record-keeping.”

This week, Nevada (D) Congresswoman Dina Titus issued a statement fully supporting the FISA law that the FBI has abused over the last decade, according to oversight reports.

“I supported the re-authorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) because we must uphold our oath to protect national and homeland security. FISA is a critical tool for the U.S. intelligence community to  Blah, Blah, Blah,…….get Trump”

We need to do more to protect Americans’ privacy from secret warrants. What happened to Trump should never be allowed to happen to any American ever again. We need criminal and civil penalties for government officials who violate FISA.

President Trump won a small victory in the FISA bill this week. The bill will only extend authorization for two years. So Trump, if reelected, will have another crack at real reforms.
