Oct. 22, 2021 Rob Lauer Political Reporter On Sunday at around 1:15 pm Nevada almost had a Constitutional Crisis. If Governor Sisolak had died in his car accident who would have stepped in? The former Lt. Governor Kate Marshall resigned last month to go work for the Biden Administration. Governor Steve Sisolak has the authority to appoint a replacement to fill the balance of the term, subject to senate confirmation. But no such appointed has been made yet. So any appointment would require a special session. Under the Nevada Constitution, the Nevada Secretary of State is third in line to the Governor. So Barbara Cegavske may have become Governor for the next year. She could have run to keep her new job in next year’s election. But wait, the state legislature may have tried to step in and appoint a new Lt. Governor creating a Constitutional Crisis.
