MAYOR JOHN LEE GRAVE POLITICAL THREAT TO HORSFORD?

Former North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee just announced he is running for Nevada’s Congressional District #4 against incumbent Steven Horsford. Horsford, who was the Majority Leader of the Nevada State Senate from 2009 to 2012, literally drew the lines of CD4 for himself. He promptly won the seat and has held it since 2013, except for one 2-year term.

But Lee has a long legacy in that district as well. Lee was elected twice as mayor of the extremely diverse city of North Las Vegas. Prior to becoming mayor, Lee served as a Democratic member of the Nevada State Senate from 2004 to 2012, representing District 1, and the Nevada State Assembly from 1997 to 2001.

Lee is also a very rich and powerful Mormon leader in the community. Lee switched parties in April 2021 to run for governor of Nevada. He came in fourth with 7.8% of the vote. Lee is running in the Republican primary for CD4 against first-time candidates David Flippo and Alberto Orozco.

Lee has the political record, the money, and the name ID to give Horsford a real run. But without a third party on the left to siphon votes away, Horsford is unbeatable.

Lee’s political case for running for CD4:
