173 NEVADANS’ RIGHTS WRONGLY DENIED: NV’S GUN BACKGROUND CHECK SYSTEM BY THE NUMBERS:

Nevada is a point of contact system, which means the State of Nevada Department of Public Safety, Records Department performs background checks for firearms purchases at gun stores, not the FBI. The 173 people who were wrongly denied in 2016, in many cases according to firearms lawyer, Don Green, were forced to hire a lawyer and spend thousands of dollars to get the false positive background check reversed, taking months and even more.

Last week 360Daily.net reported on the number of felons who attempted to purchase a firearm:

Nevada State Law: ATTEMPT TO OWN/POSSES A GUN BY PROHIBIT PERSON IS A FELONY NRS 202.360.1.

18 USC § 922(g): Federal Law prohibits certain individuals from possessing firearms, ammunition, or explosives. The penalty for violating this law is ten years imprisonment and/or a. $250,000 fine.

According to the NV Department of Public Safety public records division:

·        2016:  734 backgrounds denied under 18 USC § 922(g)(1)
·        2017 year to date: 610 backgrounds denied under 18 USC § 922(g)(1)
