THE DAILY GRIND – OCTOBER 6TH, 2016: GOV. SANDOVAL AND DEMOCRATS CUT DEAL TO RAISE CAR REGISTRATION FEES BY $40 MILLION

GOV. SANDOVAL AND DEMOCRATS CUT DEAL TO RAISE CAR REGISTRATION FEES BY $40 MILLION

According to inside sources, the Governor and the Democrats have struck a secret deal to raise car registration fees by $40 million a year in return for Democrats’ votes to support the proposed Raiders’ Stadium. None of the $40 million in tax increases will go to Education Savings Accounts (also known as ESAs). In addition, ESAs are being shelved in the special session, forcing tens of thousands of students who had been waiting for the Supreme Court decision last week to have to wait until the next legislative session in 2017 for any relief.

The Supreme Court struck down the ESAs’ financing mechanism in their decision last week, putting the whole program on hold until the legislature fixes the funding mechanism. The Governor and the Democrats agreed to table that until 2017.
Numerous Republican legislators spoke with NEWSMAXTV Las Vegas, off the record, and are already up in arms over the proposed tax increase and shelving of the ESA program by the Governor. Republicans maintain a majority in both the assembly and the state senate, but they still need the Democrats to overcome the super-majority requirements to raise room taxes to fund the Raiders Stadium.
