Today, Govenor Sandoval came out against Question 1, New York Mayor Bloomberg’s background check initiative on this November’s ballot.  The Governor’s office issued the following statement saying:

“Consistent with his previous actions on this issue, the governor does not support Question 1.  He has concerns that this measure would dilute the legitimate rights of law abiding Nevadans and that it does not actually address the complex issue of keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals.”

The Governor vetoed a similar background check law also sponsored by New York Mayor Bloomberg in 2013. In 2015, Gov. Sandoval signed into law the most sweeping gun owner’s right law ever in the history of Nevada. The law wiped out dozens of inconsistent county and city gun laws, including the gun registry in Clark County known as the blue cards. The bill passed in the Republican controlled Nevada Assembly and State Senate.
