On January 23, 2023, convicted felon and habitual criminal Brandy Lackey stole an RTC bus, triggering a police chase. During the chase, Lackey drove the bus over a LVMPD officer’s motorcycle, causing him to jump off of the bike. The bus then dragged the bike for about five to 10 feet before coming to a stop.

Officers approached the front of the bus and told Lackey to open the doors and exit the bus. Lackey refused to follow their commands. The officer used their batons to shatter the glass on the door, taking her into custody.

According to court records Lackey was charged with:

Grand larceny of motor vehicle, first offense [62125]
Driver evade, elude or fail to stop on signal of peace officer [53832]
Assault, with use of deadly weapon [50201]

On Monday, Judge Diana L. Sullivan found Lackey guilty of two charges, including attempted grand larceny. Judge Sullivan sentenced Lackey to 19 to 48 months in jail with a suspended sentence and probation not to exceed two years.

Conditions of her probation include no alcohol, completing a mental health course, and taking all prescribed medications.

This isn’t Lackey’s first brush with the law. She has a prior felony conviction and one conviction for causing thousands of dollars worth of damage at UMC Hospital, according to records.
