Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak announced he is officially running for Nevada Governor. As the Chairman of the Clark County Commission Sisolak has overseen a $6 Billion dollar annual budget making him the third most powerful politician in the State. Sisolak is an experienced public official who has won re election consistently by appealing to Republican voters. Many Republicans view Sisolak as a Blue Dog moderate they can work with. He fought the Fire Fighters Union pay raises and over time abuses that sparked a scandal. Sisolak has taken on Sheriff Lombardo over budget issues as well, blocking the more cops tax a couple of years ago. Sisolak starts out with a lead in cash on hand of over $3.7 million dollars and a majority of Clark County voters basically locked up with very strong name ID. Sisolak’s likely opponent, NV Attorney General Adam Laxalt, starts out with 90% of the rurals locked up and a legendary name in Nevada. Sisolak is not expected to face any serious challengers in the Democratic primary for the nomination which also will help him prepare for the main battle with the eventual Republican Nominee. On the other hand, Laxalt will face at least one challenger, Dan Schwartz, who can bank role his own campaign. Laxalt will have to deal with the recent corruption accusations by NV Democrats after a secret recording between him and Gaming Commission Chairman Burnett became public making Laxalt the focus of an ethics investigation which is still ongoing. Sisolak had no comment about the Laxalt investigation. Sisolak said in a phone interview today with 360Daily.net “My focus is on common sense approaches to the issues. My top three issues I plan on focusing on if elected are: Jobs, we need to create more high paying jobs with benefits. Education: More parental participation is critical. I am against spending public dollars on ESA’s. But we need to take a look at the fundamental structure of our schools. More money is not the answer. Diversification of the economy, but we need more transparency and accountability so voters see where the money is going.” Rob Lauer Political Reporter 360Daily.net
