GOV. SANDOVAL SIGNS BILL SPENDINGS $195 MILLION TO GIVE REFUGEES “FREE” MEDICAID

Carson City, Gov. Brian Sandoval signed Senate Bill 325 Thursday ending the current five-year waiting period for Refugee children and children of legal residents to get medicaid. Nevada is joining 31 other states in expediting health care for Refugee and immigrant children.

But it all depends upon President trump to sign off on the waiver. Approximately 5,000 minors with green cards, refugee youth and illegal alien children will become eligible for Medicaid. The total projected cost is $19.5 Million per year or $195 Million over 10 years according to the fiscal note in the bill.

Fiscal Note:

Providing these services will result in increased total caseload of 89,808 member months in fiscal year
2017-18 and 2018-19. The increased costs for providing related services is expected to be $19,180,663 in fiscal year
2017-18 and $19,591,924 in fiscal year 2018-19. The fiscal impact on future biennia is $38,772,587
