U.S. Border Patrol Southwest Border’s Apprehensions FY 2019 Report shows 593,507 people were stopped at the border so far this year. Compare that to 2018, when the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 521,090 people for the entire year. According to U.S. Border Patrol experts, well over 1 million people crossed the southwest border into the U.S. illegally in 2019 so far. This explains President Trump’s push for Mexico to take action. President Trump last year called on several southwest states to contribute National Guard Troops to his efforts to secure the U.S. Mexican Border. This week Trump successfully added trade tariffs against Mexico to the his tool box.

According to news reports, most of the illegal immigrants are from South American, not Mexico, and are seeking asylum. Mexico has been allowing the migrants to pass through Mexico into the U.S. But under International law, asylum seekers must remain in the first safe haven country which is Mexico. So, President Trump’s threats of imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico have produced real results.

Under the deal, Mexico agreed to:

  • Deploy National Guard troops throughout the country from Monday, and up to 6,000 troops along Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala
  • Take “decisive action” to tackle human smuggling networks

The U.S. agreed to:

  • Expand its program of sending asylum seekers back to Mexico while they await reviews of their claims. In return, the U.S. will “work to accelerate” the adjudication process.

Congressional Democrats continue to claim there is no crisis at the Southern Border. Nevada Democratic Congresswoman Dina Titus co-authored H.R. 6, called the “American Dream and Promise Act,” which would provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens in the U.S.  Congresswoman said “By passing the Dream and Promise Act, this House is going to be standing up to the hateful, anti-immigration policies that have come to define the Trump Administration. The symbol of the United States must always remain the Statue of Liberty,”

Congresswoman Dina Titus and Congressional Democrats continue to block any efforts to fund and build a border barrier.
