THE DAILY GRIND – SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2016: VA WHISTLEBLOWER SUES VA TO KEEP PHARMACIES OPEN AT NEW VA CLINICS

VA WHISTLEBLOWER SUES VA TO KEEP PHARMACIES OPEN AT NEW VA CLINICS

September 19, 2016

Over the last five years, the VA has spent millions of dollars building 4 new VA clinics throughout Clark County in an effort to provide services closer to home for disabled Veterans. Each of the new VA clinics provides Veterans with basic medical care, evaluation by a PA, and referrals to specialists. All the new clinics had pharmacies.

This year, the VA quietly started closing the pharmacies in the clinics, forcing disabled veterans to drive up to the VA hospital near Aliante to get their medications. This change affects over 300,000 veterans here in Nevada, forcing many without cars to travel over 70 miles round trip to the VA hospital to get what they used to get down the street.

A VA Whistleblower and pharmacy tech supervisor, Dr. Joseph Anoruo, sued the VA in federal court this year to block the closures of the pharmacies in the new clinics. Recently, the VA filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit which is currently pending under consideration by the Federal Court.
