NV GOV. LOMBARDO TAKES ON BIDEN’S EV MANDATE

Jan 24, 2024

Gov. Lombardo, who has his own monster off-road gas-powered racing machine, eagerly joined 16 governors in sending a letter to President Biden opposing his EV mandates. The Biden administration has instituted a policy mandating that two out of every three vehicles be electric by 2032, and the number one winner of this policy is China, of course.

The governors cite China in the letter:

China currently accounts for 70% of global electric vehicle battery production capacity.2 Bolstering the domestic critical minerals industry is an essential step to realizing any longterm, responsible electric vehicle battery production. Given China’s current action atop the global electric vehicle production, mandating electric vehicle use too quickly can also present a national security risk.

Hold on to your rainbow colored gender-neutral underwear; they cite the free market and consumer choice:

Instead of using government mandates to drive the vehicle market, allow American consumers to maintain choice in the types of vehicles they choose to drive.

There are a number of reasons why consumers are leaving these cars on dealership lots the cost, the infrastructure required, and the battery content requirements are untenable for today’s car buyers.

They cite the huge government subsidies required to sell EVs, and still, free people are not buying EVs.

Even with deep price cuts, manufacturers’ incentives, and generous government funding, federal mandates on electric vehicles are unrealistic. The American customer should be able to decide what technology makes most sense for them, not the federal government
