Share Village Las Vegas Provides Over 2.5 million Pounds of Food to Homeless

Las Vegas (February 18, 2020)

Four food service vehicles, two cold and two non refrigerated, are the backbone to the food donation program at Share Village Las Vegas, Southern Nevada’s leading homeless services not-for-profit, has provided 2.5 million pounds of food in the last 12 months to those in need of food in our community.  In January 2020, 27,780 pounds of food were distributed.

Share Village has partnered with Three Square Regional Food Bank, local supermarkets along with local businesses to facilitate the transfer of packaged foods that were slated for the landfill to a food storage and distribution center at SHARE VILLAGE LAS VEGAS #2 located at the 50th N. 21st Street. Food is distributed seven days a week at the Emergency Food Pantry which is open on an as needed basis.

Arnold Stalk, Founder and CEO, “Chronic hunger and poverty is a common and prevalent issue in our homeless population. Food insecurity is defined as an individual’s expressions of deprivation, uncertainty, or concern over access to an adequate food supply. At Share Village Las Vegas we work every day to relieve food insecurity to the homeless in our community.”

The biggest challenge with food donations is the gathering and distribution of surplus food is a safe manner. Share Village has four donated vehicles, two which are cold storage and two which are non refrigerated.  These vehicles coupled with the large storage area and ease of access the homeless have to the distribution location all come together to provide for a successful program.

Stalk continued, “Without the generosity of our vehicle donors, Feeding America, Starbucks, Food-share Program, and Three square Food bank and Three Square, the gathering and distribution of food would not be possible. In addition, our food surplus partners, Whole Food Markets, Trader Joe’s, Starbucks (77 locations per night), Dunkin Donuts, Einstein’s Bagels and PINBOX Donuts are the backbone of the Share food program. It is this circle of generosity and compassion that makes this program a success”.
