DID HELL FREEZE OVER TODAY? NV DEM SPONSORS BILL TO ALLOW 18YR OLDS CONCEAL CARRY PERMITS

May 23, 2017

Carson City, AB 118, sponsored by Assemblyman Skip Daly, “DEMOCRAT” from Sparks, passed the Nevada State Assembly 34-4 and now the Nevada State Senate 20-0. AB118 will lower the age from 21 in which a Nevadan can obtain a permit to a carry concealed weapon for members of the military and veterans who are 18 and older.

In a statement, Assemblyman Daly said “The men and women in our military are given the awesome responsibility of protecting our lives on a daily basis. Right now the law states that you must be 21 or over to obtain a permit, and yet the military has already given them the responsibility of carrying a weapon.  It does not make sense that our younger members of the military would be trusted to carry a gun in our defense, but not in their everyday lives.”

Daly’s bill allows active or reserve members of the U.S. Armed Forces or National Guard, or those honorably released, to apply for a carry permit if they are at least 18 years of age. Local sheriffs can refuse or revoke a permit to those who have dishonorable or other than honorable discharges.

Arkansas and Utah just passed similar bills this year. Nevada has CCW reciprocity agreements with two dozen states. There’s no idea whether those other states will honor a CCW for an 18 year old from Nevada.

The bill now heads to Governor Sandoval’s desk where he is expected to sign the bill.
