TRUMP SUCCEEDS IN FORCING SHERIFF LOMBARDO TO COMPLY WITH SANCTUARY CITY LAWS

August 5, 2017

Back in 2014, Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie announced that Las Vegas Metro Police would no longer cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, by holding criminal illegal aliens with detainer holds for deportation.

Following the election of President Trump and intense public pressure, Sheriff Lombardo has reversed several policies, including reconstituting the central gang task force and now deporting criminal illegal aliens with ICE detainer holds.

Earlier this year when President Trump ordered a weekly shaming list to be published consisting of counties throughout the country that failed to turn over criminal illegal aliens to ICE, Clark County was number 1 on the walk of shame in February 2017. With the threat of losing federal funding from U.S. Attorney General Sessions, Sheriff Lombardo announced that he is now working with ICE and admitted the policies of the past were a mistake that they have learned from.

This week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office declared Clark County in compliance and will receive some $900,000 in crime fights grants.

Now Lombardo is trying to white wash the entire last 4 years claiming he was always in compliance and it was a computer glitch according to Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief, Richard Suey.

Lombardo announced earlier this year that he is, in fact, running for re-election next year. No one has yet to announce they are challenging Lombardo. Lombardo is considered extremely vulnerable, polling around 39% in recent surveys.
