FORMER CONGRESSMAN CRESENT HARDY EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE BID FOR CD4 AS STAVROS ANTHONY STEPS ASIDE

January 15, 2018

Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony and Former Congressman Cresent Hardy dance the Vegas Shuffle as Anthony steps aside for Hardy to run for Nevada’s 4th Congressional District. After first term, Democrat Congressman Ruben Kihuen, announced last month he would not seek re-election after several women came forward and accused him of sexual harassment Congressional District 4 is all of a sudden in play.

But the district is heavily weighted towards Democrats with a large Hispanic population carved out in North Las Vegas.

Republican Jeff Miller has been running for months in CD, but a former congressman will have a huge fundraising advantage out of the gate. But Cresent Hardy will have the NeverTrumper label dragging behind him as he attempts to recapture the Republican mantle in the brave new world of Trump. Hardy will need every vote he can get and so we will need to make nice with Nevada Trump supporters who still support Trump, according to a late Sept poll, by 90%. In addition, Hardy’s immigration stance of supporting amnesty and DACA won’t help win over many Trump supporters.

But Hardy will have lots of juice from big DC money and big Mormon money backing him. Winning the primary won’t be a cakewalk for Hardy and could expose old wounds from 2016 that haven’t healed yet which could be fatal to Hardy’s chances of winning CD4 back.

Republican Candidate for CD4 Jeff Miller went right after Hardy saying “I wish Stavros Anthony well. If Mr. Hardy gets in the race I wish him well too, but he will have a tough time shaking his NeverTrump label, especially in rural Nevada. I am a proud supporter of President Trump.”

Democrat State Senator Pat Spearman announced she intends on running and North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee has expressed interest as well. The bulk of Democrat votes in CD4 are in North Las Vegas even tho the District is mostly rural.
